Hearing From You!

If you read this blog, let me know!

Diane and I had a great time last week at the Southern Baptist Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. We were very fortunate to have a GPS to help us around Louisville or else we would have spent a lot of time just finding our way around. In life we are very blessed to have Scripture to guide us or else we would spend a lot of time aimlessly wandering in life. The Convention went over smoothely. Johnny Hunt was re-elected president and the motion to form a task force in see how more effectively and efficiently the SBC can carry out the Great Commission was passed overwhelmingly. Sometimes it surprises people when they realize that the convention conducts its business meetings like a church does. Anyone who is a duly elected messenger can present a motion for business or participate in the discussion of a motion. Sometimes as Baptists we may act a little strange or say some strange things but as Baptists we believe that there are enough individuals who are sensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit that God's will can be discerned and obeyed.

One of the things which we experience at the Convention is to see how churches do ministry in different ways. While no church can or should copy the ministry of another church due to the unique nature and calling of each church, ministry methods are always changing while the message stays the same. And the church is contantly being challenged to examine how it does ministry in order to be sure that it is effectively fulfulling the call of the gospel. We must never lose sight of the Great Commission nor cease to seek ways in which we can better fulfill the Great Commission. In ministry there is right and there is wrong based upon Scripture. Then there is different - different ways of doing ministry. May we always seeks ways of doing ministry that will reach souls with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Because of Him,
